Area of responsibility

The Queer Department has set itself the goal of offering ALL students at Vorarlberg University of Applied Sciences a contact point for LGBTQIA* topics. In addition to various offers, we would like to give the students of Vorarlberg University of Applied Sciences a space, make them heard and form a community in which ALL are welcome and have the opportunity to network with each other.

The main tasks of the unit include:

  • Organisation and hosting of a regular LGBTQIA* Stammtisch at Vorarlberg University of Applied Sciences
  • Provision of information for all students at Vorarlberg University of Applied Sciences with a focus on sensitisation and awareness raising for equal treatment
  • Cooperation(s) with local associations and events
  • Cultural offerings with a focus on LGBTQIA* topics

I would like to participate myself. Do I have to belong to the LGBTQIA* community?

No! Everyone is welcome at the Queer Department - regardless of gender, sexuality, age, origin or other supposed "characteristics".

Of course, if you want to support the department and the LGBTQIA* students, you should also be open-minded and tolerant and have understanding for the problems and difficulties of being queer.

Is there really a need for such a department?

Those who ask themselves or others this question are one of the reasons why there is just such a deparment and why it is part of the Student Union at Vorarlberg University of Applied Sciences.

The Queer Department has made it its mission to give all students a space where you can be who you are.
We also want to raise awareness and sensitise people who are not open-minded towards queer people.

What is the LGBTQIA* Stammtisch

The LGBTQIA* Stammtisch is intended to give all students the opportunity to exchange ideas, share experiences and ultimately have a great time together.

It is expressly about not about creating a "dating platform" or something similar. Nevertheless, it is often the case that you don't always know which of the students around you are also queer. Maybe you don't dare to ask or you want to avoid an embarrassing situation. The Stammtisch therefore creates a safe environment and shows you that you are not alone and that there are people around you who understand and can support you.

Further questions?

The entire team of the Queer Department is always available for further questions and will also be happy to advise you individually on problems or concerns.

You are welcome to contact the department email and we will treat all concerns confidentially.
