Application photos

Quickly add a picture from your last holiday to your application and send it off?

Better not! The ÖH of the FH Vorarlberg spoke to the experienced and professional photographer Andreas Uher from MEDIArt Photographie about why a professional application photo is important and what is important. We have summarised the most important recommendations and information here.

Application photos directly at the FH Vorarlberg

Since 2024, the ÖH, together with MEDIArt Photography, has been offering free application photos directly at the FH Vorarlberg.

By producing images directly on site at the FH Vorarlberg, the students do not have to spend a lot of time and they can also take advantage of the offer during a "study break". Previous productions have shown us that there is a great need for this. In any case, the available dates were often fully booked within a short period of time.

As we photograph a large number of people in succession on the production dates, we only have a limited production time per person. However, this is sufficient to produce an appropriate selection of images. Students can download the images digitally from our image server after post-processing.

For us, it's great that we can support the students a little in their personal and professional development with the application photos.

FAQ

Alongside your personal qualifications and CV, the application photo is an important part of the application. It provides the HR department with a first visual impression. Professional photos also testify to the seriousness and efforts of the applicant and are therefore consciously or unconsciously included in the decision-makers' assessment.

There are numerous photographers in Vorarlberg with experience in taking high-quality portrait and application photos. The team at MEDIArt Photographie also has many years of expertise in this field - be it through portraits of employees in companies, business portraits or private shots. This experience flows into every image production.

All options are possible. However, a reduced background that is not distracting is advantageous. Outdoor or indoor shots on location should be designed in such a way that the person stands out clearly from the background. This is achieved using specific photographic techniques, which gives the image more depth and three-dimensionality.

There are different dress codes depending on the industry. If you are applying for a job in the finance or insurance sector, for example, you should take this into account when choosing your clothes. Clean and neat clothing is important. Strong patterns, bright colours or clothing with eye-catching prints should be avoided. Ideally, you should wear what you would wear to a personal interview.

As a general rule, you should wear a little more make-up than usual. We recommend evening make-up here. But you shouldn't overdo it and naturalness and authenticity are the key words here.

As a trained make-up artist, Sabine from MEDIArt Photographie also offers type-appropriate photo make-up for women. Here, too, great attention is paid to a natural rendition.

During the shoot, there is support with posture and expression. Intermediate results are discussed so that a selection of images is created without pressure. Customers can view and download these later from the comfort of their own home.

One admission date is offered per semester. The ÖH will inform you in good time and you can register online.

Individual appointments are not possible as part of the free programme. However, the MEDIArt team is available all year round in the studio or at external locations for private or commercial image productions.
