The conventional, binary-gender labelling of toilets harbours a high potential for discrimination for trans*, inter* and non-binary people. Many experience verbal abuse, threats or even physical attacks because they have used a supposedly "wrong" toilet. This everyday burden often leads to those affected avoiding public toilets, which can have both psychological and physical consequences.
To tackle this problem and enable equal participation in public life, "toilets for all" are an important step. They offer a non-discriminatory and safe space that all people can use without fear or stress. In this way, we create a Potential Safer Space and promote a more inclusive environment at the UAS.
Our aim is to set up at least one "toilet for all" in every UAS building. Responsible use of these toilets is crucial in order to maintain and expand them in the long term.
